The pest control world can get scary sometimes and in this industry, it is always Halloween! Bugs, mice, rats and termites pop up on our job everyday and if you don’t have the stomach for it, you just can’t last here. These pests aren’t native to the Massachusetts area, but they sure are freaky:

Botfly

Botflies are about the size of your index finger and they are parasitic in nature. They parasitize various different mammals, humans included, and they are difficult to run from in Central and South America. The female botfly actually latches it’s eggs onto a female mosquito and when the mosquito bites, the eggs enter the wound to hatch. That mammal now has botflies INSIDE of it!

Japanese Giant Hornet

These ferocious pests can grow to almost two inches and they are a nasty thorn in the side of the citizens of Southeast Asia. There bites can attack the nervous system and be venomous as well. As if that wasn’t enough, these hornets can fly up to 25 MPH and they are aggressive to the point where they will kill themselves literally to chase prey.

Africanized Honey Bee

In the 1950’s, Brazilian scientists bred European Honey Bees with African Honey Bees to create a very dangerous hybrid. These bees have killed people before and that has earned them the nickname in the pest world of the ‘killer bee.’ Very killer!

Giant Weta

These pests are native to New Zealand and they can grow to be up to three times the size of house mice. The largest Weta ever recorded weighed in at 71 grams which makes it the largest insect known to the planet Earth. They can actually eat large vegetation like carrots and they do not threaten humans in the area.
