Other main features include the Mill Girls and Immigrants Boarding House, The Francis Gate, and the Lowell Canal System. Not only will you take a step back in time, but this is also a peaceful place you get to explore on a free, self-guided tour.
James McNeil Whistler was one of the finest American artists, and this museum dedicated to his and other area artists’ work is in Whistler’s late home. While the works of art contained inside are nothing short of amazing, the house itself contains many beautiful architectural features. You can also see exhibitions and learn about the research conducted by those who work at the house, all relating to Whistler and others in the region.
This theatre is non-profit and has been operating in the community since 1979. Over 200 productions have come and gone from the facility, even including 16 world premieres. Since 1998 Lowell residents have been making good use of this baseball stadium, which replaced the aging Alumni Field. One of the many modern features is the raised seating, making it easier for everyone to see all the action. Also, the speaker system is in center field instead of behind home plate, making acoustic qualities better than in most stadiums. The Lowell Spinners, which are an affiliate team of the Boston Red Sox, plays quite a few home games here. Up to 5,000 people can watch as the Spinners face off against different foes.
