Pests can find their way into the smallest of cracks and crevasses and they are great at hiding! They survive by staying out of human sight and snacking on crumbs that we leave behind. You want to keep them as far away from your home as possible, but your decorations could be inviting them in. Here is what you need to know:
Imitation Cobwebs
The cobwebs that you attach to bushes or trees are practically pest magnets. They are designed with a fabric that is meant to cling to shrubbery and that same adhesive gets pests tangled in the webs. When they get wet, they become even more of an attraction. We would recommend throwing these away after one season of use, but if you have to store them, do a thorough investigation first.
Pumpkins and Hay Bales
You are likely going to throw these items out with the leaves soon, but you might want to do it sooner rather than later. As these decorations sit out on your lawn, their scent attracts rodents, bugs and several different species of pests. We know they put you in the Fall spirit, but they are also bringing unwanted guests onto your property. Get rid of them this weekend!
String Lights
The lights that you hang from your gutter will likely go back in the garage for storage and this is exactly what pests want! All it takes is one roach or ant to hide in the string lights and soon you’ll have an entire colony in the garage. These pests hide in your gutters traditionally, so they don’t have a long walk to get to the lights. As you are taking them down, run the wire through your hands and keep a close eye out for even the smallest pests.
After Halloween, we typically start out Winter checkups in the Middlesex and Hillsborough County areas. These check ups allow us to look for warning signs and seek out problems before they impact your comfort.
