Mosquitoes and other Summer pests have set up shop in your yard and now is the time when they look to wreak havoc. It takes them a few weeks to get settled, but the middle of Summer is when they really seem to hunt. If you don’t want your mid-summer party to turn into a bloodbath, be sure to avoid these mistakes»
This is certainly a little bit of an aggressive take. The citronella in the candle actually DOES help to repel mosquitoes, but the elements negate the effects. If the wind is blowing the smoke away from your table, which it likely is, you are not going to get any protection. Only use these items if it is a really calm evening– otherwise, you are just wasting your time.
Avoid Being the Most Intoxicated at the Party
Drinking alcohol is not necessarily the issue, it’s your body’s reaction to the alcohol that attracts mosquitoes. When you drink, you produce more carbon dioxide in your breathing habits and CO2 is the primary bait for mosquitoes. Drinking less will normalize your heart rate and help keep the mosquitoes attracted to all of your drunk friends.
Avoid Ultrasonic Devices
There are a number of different apps in the app store that claim to help repel mosquitoes. Most of them give off an ultrasonic sound that mimics dragonflies or another mosquito predator. These apps have not been proven to work and if they’re free you can give it a shot, but don’t give them any of your hard earned money!
Avoid Wearable Repellents
Wearable devices don’t necessarily keep the mosquitoes off of you. They help block the mosquitoes CO2 receptors but they don’t keep them away. The spray is a much better option because it will keep them away and also protect you from bites. Wearables aren’t useless, they are just not the most effective solution.
