The school year is about to start, the Summer is coming to a close and as if that wasn’t depressing enough, pests love Labor Day! It is nearing the end of warmer weather and all of these pests know that they need to stock up before time runs out. Just an FYI, they’re looking to stock up on your Labor Day BBQ and only you can stop them:

Mosquitoes

  • Apply mosquito repellent!
  • Place a fan near your dining area to deter mosquitoes flight path and cause them to change course.
  • Clean up all alcohol/ juice spills immediately.
  • Drinking alcohol causes you to breathe heavier and emit more Carbon Dioxide. CO2 attracts mosquitoes which means getting drunk will hinder you in the end!

Bees/Wasps

  • These pests tend to gather near open sodas, juices, beers and anything with sugar.
  • Try to buy small soda bottle with resealable lids so you don’t have open cans.
  • Buy smaller cups so that people actually finish what they are drinking. Half drank Solo cups are a gold mine for bees.
  • Make sure all open liquor bottles or wine pitchers are sealed!

Ants/ Beetles

  • These pests love to feast on crumbs that you normally wouldn’t think twice about.
  • To combat this, try cleaning up periodically throughout the party. Once after the appetizers, once after the BBQ, and then again after the dessert.
  • Having food laying around will bring these guys out in massive numbers.
  • Seal your garbage bags after taking them out of the can. Zip ties are a great way to ensure a knot!

Flies

  • These pests love to gather near your garbage and leftovers.
  • Be sure to throw away or store all leftover meats and cheeses because within hours they will serve as a meal for these guys.
  • Place garbage cans in your garage and not in plain sight.
  • Fans will also keep these shaky fliers away from your dining area.
