Summer is coming to a close and that school year depression is about to start kicking in. The last thing you need is a pest invasion to ramp up those stress levels! But not to worry, we’re going to tell you why taking care of your plumbing is the first step in staying pest-free:
Pests Thrive Near Water
Human life started near water and the same is true for every species on Earth. Water is critical for survival and when resources in a natural habitat are scarce, living creatures will start to look elsewhere. That elsewhere could mean the inside of your home!
They Need it To Drink
A plumbing leak from the drain trap under your sink could be minimal and difficult to detect but you can’t afford to play the out of sight out of mind card. If just an inch or so of water builds up under your sink, that is plenty for a group of roaches, mosquitoes or other insects to quench their thirst. You’re not Gatorade, you don’t need to be the thirst quencher!
They Need it To Reproduce
Flies and mosquitoes lay their eggs in water. Did you know that? If not, then you probably also didn’t know that they only need around one inch of water for a safe hatching. This little bit of water could come from an exterior faucet leak and if you let a few weeks pass without addressing it, you could have an entire new population on your property come Fall.
You’re Making it Easier On Them
Wood boaring insects like Termites and Carpenter Ants absolutely love when you let a plumbing leak soak into the wood. The water softens up the fibers and makes the job of penetrating the wood much easier for these species. They’ll have colonies set up in no time!
