Indoor pests that live in houseplants are like the rich kids of the pest world. They don’t have to deal with the rough conditions of the great outdoors and for that reason, they’re reproduction is more efficient and their lifespans are longer. They have no natural predators in this habitat, which is why you need to keep an extra close eye during your watering routine. Here is an inside look at three pests you MUST watch out for»

These sap-sucking insects are never usually caught on their own, they run in packs and their pack grows almost daily. Females give birth to hundreds of nymphs, or baby aphids, and when they mature, the females fly off to other plants to start new colonies. To combat this type of colony growth, make sure you prune plants and hose them off when you water.

Fungus Gnat
These pesky pests can wreak havoc as adults or as tiny larvae. The adult pests are relatively harmless. They often get mistaken for mosquitoes, but these guys can’t bite and they are more annoying than they are anything else. But the larval gnats cause problems when they burrow into soil for nutrients. To combat them, thoroughly examine the soil and look for tiny burrows or clear larvae.

Leafminer
Leafminer ants are not as much of a threat as the previous two pests, but they can reduce the aesthetic value of an indoor plant. If you see tiny little holes in a leaf, that’s the leafminers letting you know that they have moved in. And it’s your job to make sure their stay is short!
