Most spiders are given a bad name because people tend to judge them by their appearance. But what most people don’t know is that spiders are actually a vital part of human life. They kill crop destroying insects and they maintain balance in our ecosystems. While most of them are harmless, there are a select few that you need to steer clear of if you want to keep yourself in tact»
Black Widow
Perhaps the most famous of all the spider species, the black widow is easy to identify and extremely dangerous. They have a red dot on their underbelly which can be shaped like an hourglass or a triangle, but regardless of the shape, this is an indicator of the black widow. The male widows are not very dangerous and they are more difficult to spot. They tend to be gray or brown and they lack the identity and venomous nature of their female counterparts. They can be found anywhere in the United States, but thankfully they are more prominent in warmer climates.
Brown Recluse
The brown recluse is difficult to identify because even though it is large, it has nothing to distinguish it from your average brown or gray spider. But don’t let their dull appearance fool you, these spiders are dangerous and their ability to blend in makes them even more of a threat. Fortunately, the recluse tends to stay in the southern region of the United States and it doesn’t travel well like the black widow.
Hobo Spider
The hobo spider and the dangers associated with it are murkier than the previous two spiders on our list. Their bites are certainly less threatening, but nobody has ever captured a hobo spider to study it after they were bitten. Scientists debate whether or not their bites cause any damage at all, but we wouldn’t take any risks. These guys can venture north unlike the recluse, but they also tend to stay in the western region of the United States and Canada.
